I'm going to be re-installing the windshield and back glass soon. What size Butyl Tape should be used? 3/8" or 5/16"? Do you get new rubber blocks with the roll of tape? Is there a primer that should be used in the window channel? Is it best to put the tape in the channel and set the glass on it, or put the tape on the glass and then set it in place? I had a small leak that would drip on my leg while driving in the rain, so I thought I ought to pull the glass in order to fix it right. I must admit, this is something I have not done before, so any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

When I replaced the butyl rubber on the back window of my SuperCrew it came with the blocks. I bought mine from napa. I used 5/16 for that, not that a 2001 Ford pickup has much to do with a 65 Olds. Lol.

If you are going to do it yourself just buy an install kit for your year car and it will come with everything you need. I would call a local glass company and they can get it for you. But I'm with Jasen, call a pro and have them do it, even pro restoration shops call a glass man for installs.
One tip if you're doing it yourself, take off your wedding ring and watch if you wear one. Nothing on your hands or wrists when doing glass installs.

Did the front myself using butyl just cause I hate to farm anything out... Had a shop do the rears with urethane... less stress and cheap to have someone else do it.

Thanks Ram Z. I just filled out an online form at the Henderson Glass website in order to schedule an at home appointment to install the glass. It is a good idea to have someone with experience do this important job. I'm sure I could of found numerous ways to screw it up.

used 5/16 butyl front and back. place it on the window frame and then install windows. blocks came with the butyl package. no special primer, placed over paint. been in place for years without any leaks, etc.
