I have sent my tail light housings out for re-plating. There was some kind of a white/grey sealer around their perimeter that I removed before sending them off. Do any of you know what type of sealant material that should be? It was still kind of pliable even after all these years. The previous owner, or whomever did some paint work installed the housings with a black weather strip type of goop right over the old stuff. It had oozed out in some places and didn't look very good. I would like to find the right stuff for this location.

I don't believe they reproduce it, but I haven't checked in over 20 years ago. If anybody does reproduce it it would be Fusick's. I think there is a modern silicone based gasket available now.

you could probably use a strip of urethane from a front windshield install kit. or the 3m strip caulk

I had some spare time, and was wondering why there are so many posts on past topics. Reeeeealy irritating!! Tried the search function relating to the OP`s question, nothing but alot of crap. Come to find out the search function isn`t very friendly, to me anyway. But "google" works just fine. Possible the new site can`t search the old site? That would sure be a waste of LOTS of good info. And I`m NOT pickin on dynamic88 w29.boards.net/thread/2907I know there was more discussion than this, but enough time spent

Forgive me if I'm half assing my restore, but couldn't you just use the 3m DumDum caulk strips. Lets be honest here none of our cars are daily drivers and most of them don't see much rain. Am I right or am I wrong?

I'm going to use 3M strip caulk when I get my 64 tail light housings back from getting re chromed, boy it was a mother getting that old 46 year old material out of the channel before I took them in.
