Has anyone ever heard of the Royal Rocket? I had an older gentleman call me because he is searching for his 65 Club Coupe. The car was bought in 1964 at the Royal Oldsmobile Dealership in Netaire Louisiana near New Orleans. The car was white with a red interior, sounds most of the Club Coupes were this color combination. My car is White with red interior. The car was a bench seat 4 speed, no options and had gold rocket decals on the fenders and large 442 numbers on the quarters. Claims car's best time was 10.92 with a fully worked engine and 410 gears.
Anyway he claims that I have his car. His son paid a company to search for the car and they gave him my contact information. Also told me that the owner of the New Orleans Saints had partial ownership in the dealership back then and put the car on display as a promotion on the Saints football field back in 65. I'm going to try and get more information. I told the gentleman that I don't believe I have his car based on the history I was able to uncover which was provided by the previous owners of my car and documentation papers I have. It would have been nice but I think I don't have his car.
I did the gentleman that I would put the information up on the forum to see if anyone else had ever heard of the car or might have some knowledge. So please contact me if you have any information.
He also told me that a fellow by the name of Gary Schnieder in the Louisiana / New Orleans area purchased a new documented 65 442 with a 425 from the factory. I asked him for his number, waiting to hear if he has a story. I don't believe this to be true and don't want to stir this one up again but I'm going to check it out anyway.

New Orleans Saints didnt start play in the NFL until 1967. So that story never happened in 65.
From what I remember your car came from Ohio. Does this guy have any photos of said car? That might help.

That might help. It could be that the "future" owner of the Saints was a partial owner of the dealership in '65, but obviously bought the Saints later. He made the money he needed to buy the team selling rockets!

Oh come on, let the old guy think his former car was super special. Not much to do at the old folks home, give the man his "stories".

No I never parted a Club Coupe, the one I have came out of Ohio so that's why I told the gentleman I did not have his orginal car. As far as the first game back on Sept 17, 1967 there was a partial ownership in the dealership by the Saints owner so there could be some truth that the car was there or was used somewhere as a promtion in 67. It does make more sense that the dealership should have been using a 1968 Olds since it was September of 67. I'll try to get more information when I speak with him and some pictures.

I'll try to get more information on The Royal Rocket 65 Club Coupe and the original 425 car. The story may have some merit to it and it sounds interesting.
As for my Club Coupe, the original owner was JH Goins of Cleveland, I have the protect plate and build sheet and some documentation. The car was purchased at AD Pelunis Olds in Lakewood Ohio.
The second owner George Athey of Medina Ohio purchased the car in August 1966 and sold the car to someone in 2009 who flipped the car and sold it to Duane Roesch in July 2009. I have some information from George and the original Ohio and Missouri titles. In NY the state does not let you keep the original titles when the car is transferred. So here you surrender the title to be given a registration.
I purchased the car in October 2012 a few days before Sandy. I didn't get much done this post year due to the storm, family, and business all were affected by the storm. I have bought the remaining parts needed like exhaust, brake and fuel lines, windshield and radiator and finally have things organized. I put heat in my garage last year so there's a chance I'll get to work on her somewhat this winter. I have two other 65's that I want to complete first then the Club Coupe. We'll see.
Do you have any other information on my car that you can share. I plan on giving George and Duane Roesch a call soon.
Thanks, Bob
