I have the same problem you do, only my vehicle is a 2009 1/2 ton crew cab z71 5.3ltr. Chevrolet dealers say its common for a vehicle to go through 1Qt of oil per 1000miles. It all has to do with the 4cyl to 8cyl flex fuel change. Back to your question, were the rings changed and if so im just guessing that they do take time to seat themselfs in their new home. no smoke kinda puzzles me. Did you rebuild motor or have a performance shop do it? I wouldnt worry with only 2500mi. I agree with rickman check the filter and change oil again. Do you get any blue puffs upon startup?

On the 2009. most likely your rings are sticking in and passing the oil, but the catalytic converter keeps it from smoking... I had this problem on a Caddy. Gm said it was a maintenance item since they sent out a "MEMO" Tried an 8 hour chemical flush for $700 that didn't work and the warranty tried to get out of it since there was a service memo outlining the issue. I fought it and they had to rebuild the engine. I hope that's not your problem.......

Similar problem with my 455. Cant see anything but Im using oil pretty good after 2000 miles on a rebuild. Have been for a while...1 or 2 qts every 500 miles or so. Plugs look fine and no smoke. Moved up to 15w40 in the fall and might go to 50 weight. A slight drop on the bottom of the filter everytime I park the car but doesnt seem to be dripping at idle and no stains on the driveway. Bad exhaust valve seal?
What weight oil are you using and how are your plugs?

talked with don the guy who rebuilt my motor today he's been on vacation anyways very good machinist known for many decades first off chewed my ass for not checking oil at every fill up also says i should be using a 20-50 oil not a 10-30 after break in oil older motors have larger tolerances then new ones he knows more about that stuff than me i'm just a poor old tile setter if you what to know anything about setting tile ask me i've been practicing my trade in the union for 37 years not saying i'm any good at it anyways i'll try the 20-50 and keep you posted
