Are you kidding, you would not be lazy not to remove the whole dash just to repaint it in an otherwise good interior. Now if you had everything out of the interior doing a full interior restoration, then that's a different story. You can see a great picture of a completed dash that Jasen did for his Club Coupe here; www.w29.boards.net/index.cgi?board=65442s&action=display&thread=1468&page=12

i know takeing it out would be a nice way of doing it but the rest of the dash looks real good its just that bottom part looks a little worn and i had a little free time i thought i would try that i think i could take all the stuff off and mask everything & paint and then if it came out looking like shit then i could take it out

I've done mine in the car and it was no problem at all, I even left all the controls (light switch, heater control, etc.) You have to take your time and mask off the area really good to prevent the over spray. Take off the steering wheel and it makes the job a little easier, its easy to take off with a wheel puller (no airbag to worry about.) Yes it would be better to take it out but it can be done in the car and it can be done well, if you take your time. Gary

Its not a lot of work. Seems to me taping everything off, covering the entire interior, then painting it would be more work than taking it out. There are 8-10 nuts that hold the whole thing to the car dash. Remove radio, unhook all the switches/speedo and three screws on the HVAC control and its out. Probably 15 minutes of work. Maybe more but Ive done it about 10 times so Im pretty good at it.
