Gents...
My '65 Cutlass has a 330 4 bbl with a column shifted Jetaway behind it. In the next year or so I plan on converting it to a 4 speed. I am familiar with doing auto/manual trans swaps but not on GM A bodies. I have done some on Fox body Mustangs...but it didn't involve column shifted cars...obviously.
So, with all of the infinite wisdom from the great members of this site, I am asking for some help and guidance before I am embark on this journey which will ultimately lead to more enjoyment out of my '65 Cutlass that I love so much.
From what I understand and have read about, I should be looking for an M20 wide ratio transmission...correct? Should I also really be looking for a '65 M20 or will other years work as well?
Other than the trans, I will also need the following:
1. Bell housing
2. Flywheel
3. Clutch
4. Shifter & linkage
5. The following which comes in kit form:
brake and clutch pedals, z-bar, clutch pedal pushrod, pedal pushrod boot & retainer, clutch fork boot, clutch fork, adjustable clutch fork pushrod, clutch fork ball, clutch return spring(s)*, z-bar frame bracket, z-bar hardware kit (containing an engine ball stud, frame side ball stud, 1 spring clip, 1 felt washer, 2 nylon bushings, lock washer & nut)
6. Floor shift steering column
7. Floor shift dash (optional)
Did I miss anything? Also, will the bell housing for a 330 work on a 400/425/455?
Also, I will not be putting a console in the car.
Please add your recommendations and/or comments. Anything you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to your replies.
