Guys I need to get the rear back light up housings re plated and what is the best or only way the get the light bulb housing out?

I haven't seen a 64 housing up close, but I would imagine it's similar to a 65. I don't know the correct term, but I call it a — rolled compression seal. If you look at a 65 from the bulb side you will see at the base a ring around the base where the bulb goes in and if I remember correctly there is a small split. You would take a long screw driver and slowly pry up the rolled area until you can wiggle and pull the socket out. The replacement sockets have spring loaded tabs that just push into to housing, which isn't great for an under bumper housing. I have replaced bad sockets on my 65 with the push in replacement sockets and sealed them with the A/C caulking-strip caulking-dum dum, whatever you call it.
I do know there are companies that will rebuild a light properly after a rechroming. I see them advertised in Hemmings all the time.

So there are replacement sockets with the wires? HMM I will check into it. Also I'm not building a correct restoration, it was also suggested that I clean up the chrome area and paint it. Thanks

Here is a way to repair a good socket with a bad contact, wire and spring setup. Usually this is what goes bad on a single wire setup, however, the ground, which is made through the crimping of the socket to the housing is a frequent issue.

Just did lights for a 65 and left the sockets in, just took out the wires. The plater didn't say anything about it. I just figured they didn't dip em' that far. But I really haven't looked at em' either.

I had the same problem on my 64. But then i stumbled on the backup light delete plates and bought a pair of these on ebay for something like$15-20.00. They were not mint but in great condition. I think they are pretty rare and i like the look of the bumper when you put them on. Maybe not what you want but another option if you can find a pair.

Thanks guys I will look into the options. I like the idea of gently bending the "ring" or flange up to get the socket out. I want to find a way to re-install these and bend them back at least good enough to be able to install the bulb. Then use some 3M string sealer to help secure it.

I want to find a way to re-install these and bend them back at least good enough to be able to install the bulb. Then use some 3M string sealer to help secure it. The socket is grounded thru the housing, so a clean tight crimp is needed. Silly string is not your answer. Crimp it correctly, solder it, whatever it takes to assure a good ground.
