I'm pretty sure that Eastwood calls their argent replacement, Detail Silver. Not seeing it, or anything I'd consider appropriate on their site. I don't think the Argent Silver they market as intended for rally wheels is the appropriate finish (but I could be wrong). Shane says he has some cans of Plasti-kote's steel wheel, which he said is a shade lighter, and I might have to go that route. I don't think can caps are very representative of color, or I'd take the ash tray to the store and compare color. Would the original finish be a flat, or semi? I don't think it's gloss.

Jason,
What kind of polish have you used to clean up fine scratches in the plastic lens of the speedo?

Somewhere in this thread Jasen talks about the "Detail Silver" www.w29.boards.net/index.cgi?board=65442s&action=display&thread=1468

Jason, What kind of polish have you used to clean up fine scratches in the plastic lens of the speedo? 3M makes a plastic polish that Ive used before. Just stay on the smooth side, dont try to polish the number side. I use Plasti-kotes steel wheels for my dashes. Dash wasnt gloss, every one Ive had were flat Argent. Eastwoods Detail Silver is glossier and works well on the front end pieces (grill and fender fillers)

Plasti-kotes steel wheels is the only way to go like Ramz said.
I did 2 dashes recently. Having the two side by side showed clearly the other argent and non-plasti-kote colors looked awful.
It is worth looking for the right brand.

and both dashes had deteriorated turn signal tubes like yours. I don't know what makes some crumble like that.

I moved to Indiana in 2004, and finally moved the car up here then. I'm hoping some of our brothers with northern cars will find solid examples of these housings in their stash.

Wondering if you could back the edge of the housing with some masking tape or poster board and put some JB weld in there or, I use 3M #8115 alot for stuff like that. The 3m stuff is a little pricie though and you have to use a special gun. You'd almost have to get a glob from a local body shop. It's got a 90 minute work time, so, if you got some, you'd have time to get home with it. Just thinkin'.

Thought I'd check again to see if anyone has had any luck finding a good indicator tube in their inventory.
In the meantime, I'll try experimenting with repairing/patching my existing example, or making a replacement out of a cardboard tube (like the high beam indicator uses).
I also think there are companies out there that are restoring these gauge clusters, and they would have to be facing the same issue with these tubes. Perhaps they have a source for "re-pops", or they have a good alternative solution. I might try calling a few of them and see.

Goose: I pulled the easiest cluster I had and pulled it apart and it was the same or worse than what you have. One of the green lenses was already out laying inside because the tube had crumbled past the point of holding it in place. I have another cluster that is fairly easy to get to without gong to my offsite storage. Cross your fingers and I will let you know. On another note, I saw a piece on the Today show yesterday about these 3D plastic printers that can make anything from a CAD or other similar program. They could make these tubes no problem from what they showed on the piece. It was pretty cool, here's the link; www.today.com/tech/are-3-d-printers-coming-american-homes-1C9124676

OK, pulled apart the second cluster had here at the house and it had one really good piece. The other has one side if fine shape, but the other side is crumbling. I'm not sure what I have in my offsite storage, not sure if I have another cluster or not. I have two more still in dashes that I won't get to until later in the spring.
I now have some speedo and cluster parts for sale, check the for sale section.

Ok... nearly a full season of "driving weather" is complete, and yesterday the car came up on 1,000 miles since the speedo rebuild this past winter. And guess what, the odometer stopped at 76,999.9 1/2. Yep, something is up with the marker for the thousand position. Gotta find out what causes that to jam, but that'll have to wait again till this winter.
