I'm on a roll tonight but I like to keep the forum exciting. I'd like to hear about your first muscle car experience.
I was just a kid, meaning 5 or 6 and I loved seeing any fast car, at the time it didnt even have to be fast, just look flashy or rumble a bit. Now get a kick outta this, I was born in 73, so from the time I was able to like cars they were all gas crunch hot rods (180 hp etc lol) my brother had a king cobra, pinto looking junk with a big decal on it, our neighbor had a trans am, white with a blue bird, there were some chevelles camaros running around, but I can remember at 7/8 years old I was so obsessed with fast cars my brother got the neighbor to take me on a ride in the trans am, first time i remember 80 mph, we turned up a hill going to my house and he peg leg blew the tire off for a good 50 ft up hill, hahahahahaha I knew I had been in a NASA approved rocket, it was better than boobies, beer and smoked ribs. In my mind I had experienced the greatest thing since Christmas. HOOKED on cars since

My first car was a 1965 442, bought it from my uncle when I was 14 for $650 back in 1979. It is the car in my signature. It was almost fully loaded with options... a/c, p/w, wood trimmed wheel, tinted glass, p/s, p/b, buckets and console. It was freaky fast, might be the fastest car I have owned to date! I kept blowing up rearends though! I took it to the mechanic to replace the timing chain, where he noticed that the frame was cracked in 5 places... in front and behind both front lower control arms and a large crack in the right front goose neck. I sold the car after that to a local guy who has a 65 F-85 post coupe that he ran at Englishtown, all he wanted was the engine. Since than I owned a second 65 442 post coupe with a 67 400, a 1964 442, 1970 W31, 1968 Hurst/Olds and 2 1962 Starfires

I grew up in the 60's so they were just cars then, don't know when they became "muscle cars". I had friends who's parents drove SS Impalas, Starfires, Corvettes (a big favorite with the military dads I grew up with, my dad was a career Naval officer) GTOs, etc., etc.
What really got me hooked was in 1968 when I was 11 my next door neighbor in Virginia Beach who was a pretty successful local drag racer who was sponsored by the local Olds dealer where he worked. I use to hang out with him and his son, who was my age, when he was working on his cars before the weekend races. He had just received a new 69 442 to race that season and had finished modifying it and took me and his son for a "shakedown run". I about crapped my pants and was hooked from that day on.

1st car was a 1979 Omni 024, so that's out. 1st fun was a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7. Little 71 302 4bbl / C4, but loads of fun. I did find out what happens when you do neutral drops in an Omni though.

1968 fort Bragg NC 8 years old saw first brand new 1969 camaro. Same year sneaked away from home on a day our parents were away with older brother (baby sitting) and neighbor friend hiked 8 miles on base to swimming pool. On main base we saw a brand new blue white stripes coil induction BB chevelle and dreuled over it. On our hike back a soldier picked us up and offered a ride. Guess what he was driving? When that chevelle dropped us off and we gave him the old burn out wave the trail of white smoke & pissed offed black friends Big momma standing on front porch wanting to no were the H.. You been boy is still etched in my mine. At that age hot wheels were hot & gassers were the coolest thing on earth.

First muscle car experience was in a 65 Ranchero powered by a 351 Cleveland with a Paxton supercharger. A guy that worked at Gapp & Rouch had it, it was a nasty ride.

I couldn't have been born at a better time!!! At the time I started to drive ( synonymous with street racing ) my dad owned a '63 Starfire. On weekends, my friend and I would pop off the wheel covers, remove the air breather and head for the 1/4 mile strip painted on a local highway just outside of town. My first real thrill was shutting down a 66 GTO convert by 4 car lengths one night. In the months following, many guys tried their hand at the Starfire only to cause it to gain the reputation of being the fastest automatic around our parts. I still can remember being able to take this heavy car down the road at 50 mph, putting it in Super, then punching down the accelerator to hear the tires squeal. This is what got me started in Oldsmobile musclecars!!
