I don`t know much about these, but I`ve only seen the type with the switch right on the socket. Careful to mount correctly so the switch works. Find someone you trust, jump in the trunk and close it, should have no power. Seriously, you should lose your switched power when the trunk lid is about half way down. BUT I have seen trunk lights that were powered thru the courtesy lights, either door ajar, or rotating the headlight rheostat to interior lights powered it up. So I guess there could be different designs, Easy enough to I.D. just by looking at the socket.

I assume that you are working with " aftermarket " lights since I don't recall hood and trunk lights as being options for the Cutlass/442 back in '65. Maybe you own the luxury model!!

I don`t know about it being an actual option that required it to be ordered. I think it was about as basic as each car received 4 tires, inflated, including a spare. Lets go look at BR[]`s site, see what we can see. Huh! Y60 ? Convenience Accessory Group; Ash tray, glove compartment, luggage compartment, & underhood lamps, visor vanity mirror. I don`t know if I buy this as a package ! I doubt the only way to get a trunk light was in this package. But I don`t see the trunk light anywhere else. Does ANYBODY have a car that didn`t have a trunk light? Not just a missing light, but screw holes in the trunk lid that never had screws in them?

This is mercury switched, notice the extended socket. A regular socket would only be the length of the bayonet on the bulb.

I`ve been involved in what you could call a fuss, this ain`t even close. this is just talking, and listening. I just recalled throwing that in the trash trailer the other day and fished it out for a quick pic. Trunk lid, rear lid, decklid, whatever. Probably one of those regional things. But a hood is a hood ! Guess it could be a bonnet. Does that mean a trunk lid could be a rear bonnet? Nope, it`s a boot !
