There is an old timer here locally in Elyria Ohio who started working at an Olds dealership in the mid 50s and retired in the 80s to open his own shop. He still runs his garage and has helped me more the once with my olds. If you would like I can get you his number.

Does anybody know why some 4GC's have the longer tubes? You can see Jasen's have the long ones and Loony's are the short ones.

Best I can tell you about the vent tubes, Long vent tubes I`ve only found on non A/C cars, the carbs are absent the idle compensator valve in the secondaries. I would assume they use the longer tubes with no compensator to allow for expansion in the bowls. The shorter tube carbs are A/C carbs with the compensator valve (you can see the idle compensator valve in looneys pic in the secondaries) The compensator valve bleeds off the hot vapors at idle.

whats the tube on the choke side, with threads in top? mine has same?bottom right of looneys before pic Manifold vacuum ports, found on automatic, power brake, A/C loaded up cars. I might have this all wrong(old memory) Rear port of carb base = vent valve on valve cover Large elbow on manifold to rear of carb= brake booster small elbow on manifold front of carb= vacuum canister threaded portion of brass nipple= trans modulator small nipple at end of large brass nipple= dist. advance. And depending on options these can change. AND it really doesn`t matter much, since there all full manifold vacuum, 65 doesn`t use ported vacuum. And the vent valve vacuum hose going to your right valve cover should come from the base of the carb under the secondaries. REMEMBER I SAID DEPENDING ON OPTIONS, THIS CAN CHANGE YOUR LOCATIONS. now I`m going to look see how bad I screwed up

Now, my turn. I see there are a few that have there square bore carbs off the manifolds. If you would be so kind, would you take a caliper and measure the sizes of the primaries, AND the secondaries. This is just for my own reference, I know there square bore, but humor me please. Just measure at the base opening, where the base would mount to the manifold. Like here And here

I SENT MY CARB TO SPARKY'S AND STILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH IT WHEN IT CAME BACK. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE WHEN I EXCHANGE IT WITH A REGULAR 4GC WITHOUT THE PLUGS FOR THE JETS IN FRONT. THEN EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. EXCEPT THEN I DON'T HAVE THE CORRECT CARB ON. ONE WITH SMALLER THROTTLE PLATE HOLES. MINE DOESN'T HAVE ANY TAG ON IT TO TELL IF IT IS THE CORRECT NUMBER. BUT ALL OF THE THINGS I CAN CHECK LOOKS LIKE THE CORRECT ONE. I DON'T MIND SENDING IT ANYPLACE AS LONG IT IS FIXED RIGHT. ANOTHER SMALL NOTE I AM RUNNING AV GAS 100 OCTANE LOW LEAD I DON'T THINK THAT SHOULD MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. IT WORK'S OK WITH THE OTHER CARB THANK YOU AGAIN JIM
