Hey guys, I have 3 65 grills, I am just curious as to the variation. 2 of them, the rectangle openings are all black, and the bottom trim strip looks like anodized aluminum, 1 of them has a lot of chrome on it, the rectangle openings are faced in chrome and the bottom chrome strip is chrome?

The 442 grill is black, with the exception of the horizontal bar just above the center chrome piece, and the horizontal bar just below the center chrome piece. These two bars are black with a chrome front face (tip). So you see the thick chrome center bar, and a chrome strip just above and just below. The rest (rectangle area) is black. The wide bottom trim piece that sits near the bumper is silver.
Actually the thick center bar is chrome, but the face where the letters are is silver paint.
For the regular Cutlass the whole grill is chrome.
I believe all the grills are actually chrome, and GM painted black over the chrome for the 442's.
Bro has a good picture on his website, as does RAMZ.

The grills themselves are identical. The difference be tween the 442 and any other model is simply the paint scheme. They are all fully chromed. The non 442's are not a full chrome finish. The have the argent silver across the front and in between the grill bars. The difference in the 442 is the flat black grill bars, with the exception of the main center bar and the two thin bars closest to the center, which are left chrome on the front edge.

Im curious also. I have 3 grills and two of them are different. I know BR[]s site tells you the difference but wouldn't a 442 have more chrome and less paint, only saying, being what it is. In BR[]s "is it a clone" it states for a 442 less chrome and more flat black , at least on the grill and bezels. To me thats odd cause a 442 was an option , an upgrade. People pay more money for chrome right or wrong. Either way it dosent matter to me, however now a days people will pay more for chrome, even if its plastic/chrome. On the headlight bucket install, I know you have the two screws that hold them in place, does the spring just hook right onto the bucket?

Spring attaches to the bucket (pictured below) and to the trim ring that retains the headlight bulb.
