So I sent my son into the trunk to measure the speaker size on my post this morning, the result is none. Appears that there is a spot for a rear defroster in the center but nothing on the sides. Well, I have never seen a rear defroster in a Cutlass and I guess I can now put whatever size speakers in the back that I want. Guess it depends what kind of package tray I can purchase seeing the original one is junk. What has anybody else done to upgrade there speaker system and don't really care about being original.

Is this what the center of your package tray looks like? I haven't had any luck finding any modern say 3 way of 4 way speaker to fit those mounting holes though. Package tray is the mesh one from fusick, the interior top is plastic not vinyl.

I have seen guys put them in either of these two areas(vent kick panel and lower left door), as long as the rear body of speaker fits. oh yeah the rear speaker dimensions are 4 x 8. I haven't drilled mine yet but it will work.

center is the speaker hole. Well, that won't do, time to go package tray shopping. Thanks Xtremejr, looks like I'm going to work my own deal.

This really depends on what you want and how far you wanna go. what head unit are you running?Your best bet is the after market kick panels and then run a nice 6.5" component set, dont run anything in the back, buy a GOOD set of front components such as Hertz, Hybrid audio technologies, rainbow, focal. You will never know the rears arent there. I am installing my audio equipment right now, I did just as I described above, with the addition of 1 10" in the trunk, I ran Hertz 6.5's up front and it is the most amazing thing I have heard, with that being said a really good set of component speakers will run off the power of the head unit and sound fine, but they will really sound good if you supply some power to them, I am actually running 2 Boston Acoustic GT-2300 amps capable of 1400 RMS mono at 2 ohms
