My name is Marc; I'll be 68 in June, married twice, a son who's 41. Born and raised in Kansas. Started out drag racing in the 60's, ran a 55 Chevy, '23 T altered, and a 6 cyl. '62 Chevy II. Quit racing in 73, played with dirt bikes for about 6 years. Bought my first '65 post car from a dealer in Wichita, Ks, which was their race car for the '65 season. Bought it ready to race, would run mid 12's. The dealer held the record with it in '65. Traded it in 72 for a new Monte and got $500. Worked as a tech writer for a printing press manufacturer, JI Case, and Boeing; worked the last 25 years as a logistics specialist; spent 11 years in Seattle, retired in 2006. After losing my twin brother in a drag car accident, I needed to occupy my brain with something so I decided to try restoration. I bought my '71 Bultaco dirt bike back and restored it, then had to teach myself to weld after I bought a '40 Chevy business coupe, did an off-frame revamp....took 4 years. Bought my present '65 442 post car in Jan '09, and did an off-frame rebuild, spent 3+ years reassembling it. I do all my own work other than interior, and have a buddy who does the stitchwork.

My name is Steve, I'm 44. I have two beautiful girls and an almost understanding wife (haha). She is great, really. My life with cars began with my dad. He was a total car nut, I have tried to teach my girls what he taught me. My girls like the garage, my wife does not like them liking the garage. I have owned my 65 442 for 23 years. I bought it disassembled at a body shop. Three loads of parts and many hours later, I have a nice dependable car. I'm currently working on a 65 convertible cutlass. My day job is in IT work for Veterans Affairs. So many people at this forum have helped me and you did not even know it, I guess I'm one of those members that reads more than he replies. Looking foward to meeting Jeff "Bubba" and Shane next week. Email coming tonight.

I'm 40 now, but I am not as old as my parents were at 40. I'm on my 4th 64 Cutlass since I bought my first one at 18. If I still had my first one,it might actually be done now. Been married almost 19 years and have an 11 yo daughter who likes to help me work on the 64. I worked 8.5 years at a automotive crash test facility, then Christmas 2009 I started a new career as a Dispatcher. In 2006, I went back to school, working fulltime and going to school fulltime, and and got my Criminal Justice degree in 2009. In what little spare time I have, I'm a volunteer reserve officer at a local PD.

Name is Shaun. 30 years old. Purchased my 65 442 a little over a year ago. I work for a steel company based in Columbus, OH. In a previous position, I sold a large amount of the steel that went into American manufactured GM and Ford vehicles.
I have no real car training (a few of you likely picked up on this). My Dad was a drag racer before I came along, but more of a hack when it came to wrench work. God bless him, but I didn't learn much.
As a kid, I remember reading Car Craft while my buddies got into Sports Illustrated. Something about muscle cars always called to me.
So I saved for five good years and shopped the market for 12 months before pulling the trigger.
I've learned a rediculous amount from this site, Br[]'s and a few of you who have been kind enough to field a phone call (shout out to Mike).
I will likely carry the title of youngest and least experienced in the group for a while. And it feels great. Something liberating about admitting you dont know squat, but are willing to pour your time (and wallet) into learning.
I'll be saying "thank you" a while, but am determined to supply something valuable in the future.
PS for any other true rookies: in/lbs torque does not equal ft/lbs and you should pay close attention. Thank God for helicoil.
