Well, almost embarrassed to post this but if anyone can learn from my stupidity then its worth it. Was truly excited about yesterday as I thought Id be firing my motor for the first time. Had everything set and ready to go. Last piece was to set initial timing by lining the distributor and the #1 cylinder. Well long story short, the motor was ceased up! I tried everything but but finally realized I was going to need to pull the intake and heads. What I found was very dissappointing. The number 8 spark plug was out and at some point I got some small debris and water in . Needless to say that ruined my day. Ended up pulling the motor and trans, putting it back on the stand and putting some liquid wrench into the cylinder. That sucks! The good news (if there really is any) is that it wasnt too bad and it was very low in the cylinder. The piston freed easily and I was able to back it down so that I didnt scratch the walls beyond the affected area. Was then able to get a hone in and clean it up. Cleaned up the piston, new rings and Im back in business. Motor is reassembled, back in the car and Im almost back to square one. Was a long fricken day.

If this was your biggest embarrassment, I say, "not bad". I`ve done much worse. For whatever reason the water/junk got in the cylinder, the cylinder seizing was probably a good thing, if it haden`t seized you never would have known that cylinder was headed for destruction down the line. That would have really pissed you off and caused a lot of head scratching as to why.
So see, there was a silver lining

If I posted all the embarrassing moments I've had screwing with cars, I'd fill up this forum from now until doomsday. Ya just gotta laugh and say, "aw shit" and go on. Be thankful it happened in your garage instead of giving up the ghost out on the road somewhere which, like postcar said, would probably would have left you even more pissed and scratching your head. Onward and upward!

I accidentally filled a cylinder with oil (long story), tried to start the engine a couple days later not knowing the oil was still in there. It made a half revolution and that was it. Rod and piston turned 90 degrees under the pressure. So your OK,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, shit happens! keep smilin'
