The last two days I spent were wandering around jefferson county swap meet in wisconsin to find any thing my olds could use. Since when has a swap meet went from bartering new and used car parts to selling barbie dolls and homemade bird feeders, those folks out in jefferson have turned that thing into a 100 acre rummage sale. Maybe one-quarter was actually new or used parts, I know 65 parts are hard to come by but I walked around that place for a total of about 20 hours and all I saw were two tail panels (heavily pitted) and one front grill that was missing a mounting tab, asked the guy who had about 6 high lives down before 10am how much for all 3, he says no lower than 800$. Last Time I will be attending that Rummage Sale, oops I mean Swap Meet.

Honestly.....most swap meets have gone to shit. If you're not looking 70's & early 80's 4WD truck parts or flea market junk, your shit outa luck.

When I was growing up me and my old man would spend the entire weekend looking for shit at a swap meet. Now it seems like a bunh of scrappers trying to sell you something they know is broke or stolen. Car shows even are crap, maybe 100 cars, walked through it in an hour.

I took the 4 hour drive to Carlisle Pa from NY to find the same thing Looking for 64-65 Olds parts and anything Pontiac. What we found was just about the same. No parts or if they had them, they would be, asking way to much or way to much and junk. Maybe its just the shitty economy.

The best Olds swap meet I was ever at is at the Olds Homecoming In Lansing Mi every June. At the very least you will see Myself, TP, and JR. At least it's mostly Olds stuff, 65 stuff is slim but there. Dick Miller, will be there along with many other venders. There was at least 5 65442's their plus some Cutlass's.

Used to sell parts back in the 80's.Load the day before. Get up at 3:30 am, drive three hours to Detroit, set up, bake all day in the 80 degree mich. heat, get back home, by 7:00. Unload, go to bed and go to work the next day. That trip would cost me about $120.00. I would take in, 4 to 6 hundred on a good day. That was selling mostly N.O.S stuff. Now days the N.O.S stuff is mostly gone. So, the only thing to sell, is the crap nobody wants. Face it, if you had something real nice, you'd keep it. In another 10 years, I doubt the swap meet thing will exist. At least for car parts. Do the math, 16 hour day, not including loading the day before. That's about $3.75 an hour, then back out the cost of $120.00 to be there. Swap meets are a social gathering and that's about all.

Do the math.....all the true muscle car guys will be just about gone in 10 more years. There are a few second generation kids (I say kids) keeping them alive and I'm happy to see it, but it won't be all that long before 60's muscle people are in the same boat as all the Model T & A people, Gone or too old to keep up. The prices on those T' & A's (NOT tits and ass) have dropped like a lead balloon. I hope the same doesn't happen when us "Baby Boomers" bite the big one. My 2cents!

I've been going to Jefferson for 21 years now. Most years I don't find anything great, but I have made a few good scores. 64/5 console and shifter for $75 that's in my car now, 65 F85 dash for $25 and 64 dog dishes that I have about $25 bucks into (bought three at one time 2 at another). Yesterday was a cold rainy mess, but I still had fun because it's one of the few times a year my friends and I can all get together. This was my 11 year old daughter's first time too, even as crappy as the weather was she still had fun and wants to be part of the "crew" now.

Model As are still hot, check out the HAMB board and youll find a bunch of guys building them. Restoration of A and Ts is dead. They are worth more as rods and rats than they are restored. The reason being is a restored A isnt rare, is slow, and doesnt have any cache. They are boring. Muscle cars have style, power and rarity. Thats always going to attact people. And now guys are pro touring them, so a new generation is coming into muscle cars. We are coming up on 50 years since the 64 GTO came out and there are new parts coming out every year for them. Dynacorn comes out with a new reproduction body every year. Watch Barrett-Jackson, its not all old farts looking to relive their youth. As for the swap meet thing, I think its the net and new parts that are killing them off. The supply of NOS and good used parts is drying up. There are more new parts out there now than ever. Why look for a used POS when you can buy new, and never leave your house? Hell, when we need a part for our 65s we come here or ask our many 65 contacts. Only thing Ive found at a swap meet for a 65 is a 4GC carburetor. Other than that there isnt any for 65s at swap meets, including the OCA meets.

It's been a few years now, but I was in California for my nephew's wedding and took in a Good Guys Nationals and they had a very decent swap meet section. I've heard from other guys in my Olds chapter that have been to good swap meets in Cali.

Correction, I bought a set of doors off of Mr Ron Frye down in Alliance. But again he is someone I knew already.
Seems like we know everyone that has a 65 or has parts.

They have several huge swap meets out here. One in Portland is billed as the biggest in the PNW. I spent two days there and found nothing. Craigs list and ebay is about it for 65 stuff.

Shane, the dates to attend of the;
June 3 - Pomona Swap Meet June 10 - Long Beach Hi-Performance Swap Meet
I like both swapmeet are great, Pomona is the best cause its HUGE and fun! Long beach is smaller tho but still fun, I found 2 65 Cutlass for sale that last time I went, the color was YELLOW! but all stock and it was just a beauty!
I defiantly recommend it! if you never been to any of these swapmeet.
