Test fit a 255/70r15 on the rear of my 64. It looks like it will fit. Still on jackstands, so not sure how it will tuck up in there. My buddy has run 30x9 slicks on his 65, so it should be fine. She's a big-un though. ;D Nice patina on the wheel. Still leaning towards the dog dishes though. We'll see what the budget says.

"Jeff" bubba
Take a look at the clearance issue, (leading face of tire/rocker panel) on 64b09 `s car. And don`t forget it`s still on stands. Ever see the cure for tire growth issues ?

When my car had stock wornout suspension, and the rear sway bar had rusted through the lower control arms one side rubbed the tire to cause this, keep in mind the springs were so worn out there were helpers between the coils I was running a 255/45/18 one side rubbed in hard turns

I took a rubber mallet and corrected the prob, im sure the worn out rusted crap allowed this to happen

I like the old school slots you have on it. They won't fit on the rear anymore. Not enough backspacing now that the 71-2 8.5" is in.

Finally off the jackstands after like 5 years ;D Repainted the wheels with the 255/70r15 Pay no attention to the mess ;D Here is a down the side view. Closer look from the side. One problem I ran into, since I have the 71-2 Olds axle which is wider, the outer wheelhouse is going to need a little clearancing. there is about 1/2 vertical space before it hits the outer wheel house where it makes the turn to join the 1/4 panel. Makes me think I should have left the 64 rear in it. LOL

I have a pair of 255/R60-15's on the rear of my hardtop and still have about 3/4 inch on each side of tire to the wheel well. Thinking I could get a little more tire in there if I wanted to.

If I had different backspacing or the original width rearend they would fit even better

LOL I've got the same issue, rear is out of a 72 and running 255/60/15's on SSIII and the tire hits the transition (slightly) inside the rear well. OK as long as I dont have anyone riding in the back seat and isn't much but enough that it does hit. Believe the BS is 4.5 or 4.25 for what it's worth.

I was talking to my buddy today who also had a clearance problem there. I'm going to slice the outer wheelhouse in that area and then move it and them tack it back together. Worked for him.

Actually, its a 12bolt out of a 69 Chevelle, so I am losing an inch or so on each side. I am running 275/60's , and plan to correct that lean before the car goes back to the track by having an anti-roll bar installed.
