Hey, i'm new to the forum, but i just picked up this 65 442 all original perfect rolling shell for $1000. I'm 18, and i am damn near broke, but i am going to try to fix her the best i can. I have 2 65 Chevelles, and i know every bolt on those cars, so im hoping this one will be pretty easy, too. If anyone has any suggestions on which direction I should go, let me know. I am pretty set on getting an original 400 back in it. Also, I want to convert it to a 4-speed. I hear that the 65 400s are ver rare to come by, so I'm not to sure what to do. I refuse to do a Chevy engine or a 455. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Good to have you on the site, all you have to do is ask, someone will chime in. The original 400 would be nice, but don't sell out the 425 or 455, if cost is prohibitive a running substitute works until you find the motor you want. They come in and out real easy.

Easy? Yes and no. It will come apart just like your Chevelles. However the Olds specific parts, like that 400, are hard to find if you dont have them.
But thats what we are here for. Looks like a real solid car from the photo.

welcome. I'm with Bubba on this one. Stick a 425, 455 or hell a 330 in it until you can afford what you really want. 330's are a dime a dozen and obtainable for 200-300. A good 400 is going to run you several thousand and the 4spd conversion about the same. If you are broke, your best bet is to get a 330 and a TH350 or a jetaway...I am sure each member on this forum has a jetaway (ST300) laying in the back yard weeds for $50.

Looks like a great base to start with for sure. We'll help best we can let us know and if we can help we will.
400's are hard to come by, but not impossible. Heck one just sold right here the other day.
Welcome,

Yes indeed welcome to our club. At some point in a year or two I plan on building a "Bad Boy" 425 for my 64 pro-touring build. For right now I'm going to run with my 67 400E. Kind of the same example the other guys have mentioned. However the motor has 65A heads on it. So keep that in mind down the road. This club has a wealth of knowledge on the restoration, general repair on the 64-65's.

Same here, I know someone on the west coast that has a cutlass conv he started to restore into a 442 with a rebuilt 400. He has talked about selling the project but has some cash in it, so not going to let the project go cheap if he does.

If you are near Orlando like your name might imply, look me up. I have a very complete 403 out of a 79 TA that is very complete, very rebuilt, and very cheap.

Its a completely rust free car that i picked up off a friend. every panel is original and straight as an arrow. The hood is the only exception. it has rust holes (not too many) in the front and its off the other 65 442 that the guy has. I am trying to build a pro-touring car out of it, but being that im only 18 and broke, thats going to be easier said than done. I live in Sacramento, CA. thanks all for the leads on all the parts

Sacremento, hugh? Damn. I was once 18 and broke and I always found good people to help me out on my old 69 396 Chevelle I drove at the time.
Look, the engine has been sitting on a wharehouse rack for well over 6 years. Gimme your zip and let's see what shipping would run. The long block is complete all you need do is mount the tin and intake and you are motorvated. Never one to discourage an 18 year old from the old {not Olds, old) stuff, I commend you for not ricing out a Honda. If you can afford the shipping, the engine is yours.

Gimme your zip and let's see what shipping would run. The two of you should look into shipping via Fastenal. If you can fit what you want to ship onto a pallet, it will likely only cost $100 to ship from one Fastenal store to another. You just have to arrange to get it to the store you ship from, and from the store it's delivered to. Find the best store locations to ship from and to, go to this link (http://www.fastenal.com/web/services.ex?action=Logistics), fill out the form, and you'll get an email back with a quote and a confirmation of whether the stores you selected are "eligible" or they will provide the closest stores that are.

Let me know some quotes and im sure i can get the money together. Thank you again
