So why in the hell can they not make the gaskets supplied with replacement door handles exactly the right size? I did a trial fit and both the large and small gasket hang outside the edge of the handles. Something as simple as that. Just do it... Dumb asses.

you really dont want the handles to rub on the car, so thats why they are like that.

Always a little overlap involved to protect the paint.

Just don't recall seeing the gasket protruding. Does anyone have any close-up pics of their door handles with the gasket overlapping?

It is probably because over the years the gaskets dried and became brittle and the part that overlaps the handle came off only leaving the portion you saw when you removed the handles before painting. Mine were that way on my Sports Coupe. The gaskets are supposed to go beyond the footprint of the handle bases.
