I have ran into a bit of a snag, I was replacing my leaking pinion seal yesterday and the new seal was to big by about 1/16th. I cleaned the old one and it is a National 9773216 part number. I carried it to 4 diferent parts stores this morning and every seal the local, NAPA, Car Quest, Advanced, and Orieleys lists it either too large, or the seal area is too small. Although I can google the National Part number 9773216 and it says its for a 1964-66 Olds, F-85. ? The national part in now obsolete. Any help getting one to fit?

Mark, rather than rely on a cross reference, or superseded numbers, since were talking a simple lip seal here. Take your caliper, get your O.D.-I.D. & width, any decent parts house will get in a book and size your seal. I use carquest almost exclusively, when purchasing a seal by size rather than by application, the book always comes out, never had a problem, ever. Trouble with these old parts that still have a legible number on them is they`ve been superseded so many times there not reliable anymore.

I spent 3 hours today going through books at O'rieleys and Advanced, our local Carquest isnt open on Sunday.
