Dont know if anyone had the same problem but installed a th350 tranny in the cutlass and converted it from column to floor shift. Biggest issue was getting the backup lights to work. Another problem is the car would start while in gear. This weekend took the center console out to repaint it and decided to work on the issue. Found a very reasonable solution. take the switch off of the shifter. Take the switch apart, center the switch on the back up light contacts and mark the location, whil the switch is apart, remove the contact that allows the car to start in the "typical" nuetral position. This will only let you start the car in park but thats better then while in drive. Reassemble the switch. With the switch reassembled you'll need to grind off the inside formed plastic bump on the bottom as it will prohibit adjustment. Next enlongate the two adjustment slots so that you can slide e switch further forward (towards the floorboard). Mount the switch, place the shifter into reverse and slide the switch until the mark you made alighns correctly so that you know the switch is in contact with the backup lights. Tighten and test. Worked for me and the car starts in park, has reverse lights and doesnt start in gear. Will try to post pictures later as that makes it much clearer. Hope this helps others...... Nice to have the backup lights working!
