As I was getting ready to start looking at getting the dash back together on my 64, I set the dash and instrument panel in place and noticed the top half is wavy and bows a bit.
Has anyone ever unwarped one? I would assume a heat gun would work but I don't want to make it worse.
It either this or the cracked 64 one I have for right now, no money for a mint one or to get it redone at Just Dashes. ;D

I have a 65 holiday coupe, it was a western car so the dash pad is cracked and brittle. I started skinning it like a dear and a friends father told me when we were recovering the seats to let him have the dash pad and he will take care of it, he once did custom upholstry. He said that what hes done in the past was to duct tape over the dash vynel and all then cover it in 1/8" to 1/4" headliner foam then cut and stitch a new cover, the stiching would be around the outermost edge around the dash insert. Im not restoring my car to original im kinda 80's resto/streetcaring it on a tight budget so being i got extra vynel yardage with the covers it cant hurt, will post pic's when i figure out how to do that. There was an issue of journey with olds a couple of years ago with a red 66/67 that had a grey interior that had a stitched dash cover and it looked great.
There is a guy here in north carolina that operates a shop and pedals at shows, called classic olds he had a 65 black dash pad that had a small piece missing in a lower edge but was still somewhat pliable he wanted $400 for it and like you said just dashes is up there.

Well I tried a little heat gun on it. It worked a little, but I was afraid I would make it worse with the heat it needed. So since its just a temp dash anyway I through on some paint and slapped it together.

I have two junk ones Im going to try to fix. Both are cracked and warped. The heat gun is probably the only way to reform them.

I think you're right. But since this is the best of the three I have now, I didn't want to take a chance of screwing it up more.lol

64's had the funny ignition switch?? Yeah, that one if you did not take the key out in the "Lock" position you could start the car without the key. Many a joyride started that way with 64 GM cars.

I never noticed that there was a difference except in the dashface when I replaced it with the 65.

They look pretty much the same, but the padded one has vinyl over a padded metal base/frame. The plastic is just a formed piece of hard plastic.

Im sure ramz would be interested because if its not broken or cracked anywhere i would trade him my red one for your blue one.If he dont want it i do. They usually crack above where the column comes thru
