I know other members have the same question. Have any of you installed aftermarket A/C systems and if so, which one and do you have any feedback on it? I know guys who have gone with Vintage Air and they are very happy with the setup. Blows super cold and the install was pretty straight forward. www.vintageair.com/Input?

I have a vintage air in my 86 Chevy rollback and that thing is shweet. Twice the air flow of a stock system and literally blows 40 degrees on a 98 degree day. But it is the airflow that impresses me the most.

Here's my two cents worth! I installed a Hot Rod Air heat & a/c unit in my '40 Chevy and am very happy with it. I had never installed a/c prior and this unit came with instructions that any dummy could follow. I installed the unit, and when I had it charged, I had to snug up one fitting and the thing worked like a dream, and is still working great 3 years later. The unit was about $300 less than a comparable Vintage Air unit (I'm not knocking Vintage Air either), and about the only difference was that the defrost/dash/floor doors are vacuum-operated, but I don't have a particularly hot cam in my motor so that wasn't a problem. (I think Vintage's are electrically operated.) I wrote field installations instruction manuals for various companies during my working years, so I know good installation manuals from bad ones, and I had no problems with the install. I emailed Hot Rod Air and complimented them on a great product and super instructions....and the next day, the president of Hot Rod Air called me and talked for about 45 minutes. Great PR, huh?

Guys I'm going to use Vintage A/C on my 64 build but what/who's compressor brackets are you using to mount the compressor? Nobody makes them for an Olds. Do you have to fab your own?

Unless they are on your "bad vendors" list, try Mondello's.

Guess I must be the last one to know. I didn't realize HRA had gone into chapter 11, which is what it sounds like on various forums. I know the owner had originally worked for VA and supposedly quit to incorporate changes in his own company's unit that VA wouldn't in theirs. I'm sure that their unit is almost like VA's. All I can say is I'm happy with my unit....so far; time will tell if I live to regret it. Thanks for the info.

I think the Ford Motor Company owns or has vested interest in Vintage Air.
