It has been a long time since I have done one of these with the engine in the car...anyway...can the cover be removed without dropping or loosening the oil pan? I seem to recall prying the cover out and triming the lower seal to install it?

Just finished doing this on the green car. Cover comes off easily, install is another story all together. Loosen the oil pan as far as you can reach, at least 3 bolts on each side. Use screw drivers to pry down pan as much as you can(hope you don't tear gasket) I lucked out. My son assisted me on installation, one person installs cover pushing it down far enough to line up on at least one dowel the other person hold it in place while the installer put a drift or whatever through an open bolt hole and pry's the cover down far enough to line up the other dowel and tap into position. Pain in the ass unless you want to try your luck at loosening all the pan bolts.

I usually went back 4-5 bolts, and push down on the pan while putting on the plate. Leave the water pump bolted to the plate, it will add leverage 1000% Jim
