Hardtop and sedan 442s got the open channel frame with the muilt hole upper mount standard. Just like the 65s did. There were 4 frames in 65, 442/non442/vert/vert442. I reckon there was the same in 64. I understand the differences between the standard hardtop/sedan frame and the hardtop/sedan 442 frame. I also understand that the 442 convertible frame was boxed. Can someone explain what the difference is between the hardtop/sedan 442 frame and a standard convertible frame? Maybe an extra mounting point so support the body? I'm mainly interested in the front third of the frame where it starts to turn in forward. thanks, Grant

vert frame is boxed. Standard hardtop/coupe frame is not boxed, but the boxed frame (vert) was optional. So you could get a hardtop 442 with a boxed frame, if it was optioned with one.

If you look at my frame posting you will see that section. What are you after?? Send me an email, if you have a specific question we can talk it over. I have a little experiance with that part of the frame.

For some reason I thought I saw a posting (from Stan) somewhere saying his frame was not boxed, but I must have read that wrong.
I have my 442 frame sitting next to a standard holiday coupe frame right now. I'm finding a lot of differences. Tomorrow or Saturday I'll take a bunch of pictures and post the differences I find.

yes grant , that is correct my frame is not boxed. the verts were boxed on an angle, that pic above is a vert frame, the 442's didnt come with a vert frame because of the weight, so they opted to strengthen the standard frame

"notice single position mounting of lower control arm. This a Cutlass Convertible."
All the lowers are single position...........
Only the frame end of the upper can have 2 positions .........

This is what Steve meant to show. See all the holes on the frame mount of the upper control arm, BTW the frame is hanging upside down.

Thanks for the pictures guys. So the front of a convertible frame is not the same as a 442 frame. I assume it does not have the gussets in the front and it's more like the standard frame.

I don't know about the gussets on a standard vert frame, maybe Pikeccolds or somebody can comment on that.
