I've misplaced my shop manual, and may have to search for and purchase a new one. Does it contain instruction on the removal and disassembly of the steering column for a floor shift model? I've got a bearing or something that's gone bad inside the column... sounds like about where the column crosses under the dash.

Theres two bearings in the column, one in the turn signal switch and one at the end of the column tube. That one is under the hood, look at the end of the column tube where the white plastic piece is. Theres a clamp on the steering shaft that holds it in the tube along with a screw, loosen the clamp, remove the screw from the white piece and the bearing is right there.

My next question is going to be technical... so we're hosing up the whole "Lounge" mantra!!! ;D
Is it best to service these bearings (might as well replace both, and anything else that wears while I'm in there) with the entire column removed from the car, or is it a reasonable to service these items with it still installed in the car?
Ok... back to the "Lounge". Does anyone have any experience/feedback on the shop manuals available on CD? I'm heading up into the attic in search of my red covered shop manual, but just in case I need to replace it, I was wondering about the CD version.

Personally I like having a manual that you can lay on the fender and reference. I don't like printing out every sheet I need.

You have to remove the column shaft to get the bottom bearing off and on. So only way to do that is to remove the whole thing.
