A friend bought a Standard Coupe that has a vinyl top with this trim. I know that they were not available in 65, but this is the second one brought to my attention. I believe they were added later. He said he has a book ( which I can't remember) that shows a C08 option code for it.

The last salesmans boolet, revised in Feb of 65 shows no code for rooftop covering. GTOs had them in 65, and used the same trim as the two tone Oldsmobiles. Never seen that piece of trim before.

Here's another "added later" vinyl roof. They believe this to be factory, BUT THEY WERE THE 3rd OR 4th OWNER. This one uses the two tone roof line trim which lines up with the bottom window trim, not below the window.

I'm probably missing something, but looks like the stock two tone trim to me? That IS Exactly what it is............. The top pic is the weird one, but you'll find that the retaining clips were riveted on. That's how the after market vinyl roof trim was added to cars that didn't have the dividing chrome for two tone separation.

I think it was a factory original out-the-back-door vinyl top, with a 425 tri carb set up. One of one. Right Bubba??

Yep, I agree. My guess would be that the 65 442's/Cutlass' that the owners said had a factory vinyl roof were probably dealer added. I'm sure some dealers that may have also had a Pontiac dealership or knew a fellow Pontiac dealer ordered the precut vinyl and applied them to the 442. You've got to remember a number of dealers back then would do just about anything for customers, things that you could never do now. Plus, many dealers then had their own interior shops, radio shops, and other component specialties that dealers farm out now. This was especially true of Olds and Cadillac dealers which were frequently dual dealerships like Pontiac and GMC, and Chevy and Buick. The top picture is certainly an aftermarket add on.
