Not sure why this is so hard.
Heater core started leaking so I decided to freshen up my cooling system (and install my recently found water valve)
Figured I'd refresh the water pump and radiator while I was at it.
Could not find a Water Pump listing for a '65 442 anywhere. Ordered one for a 65 F-85 w. AC thinking I would get better flow.
However... got it bolted on and the pulleys don't line up!
It appears the neck is about 1/2 in longer then the one I took off.
Are the A/C and non-A/C water pumps have a different neck length?
Anyone have a Napa P/N for the correct pump?
Thanks!!

What you wanted should work fine... it sounds like the part they got you was for a later model. The '65 water pumps are very short... where the later models are 9/16" taller.

I was under the assumption that the length of the standard water pump and the heavy duty, ac water pump were different lengths.

what a coincidence, yesterday i spent the morning changing my water pump also (350), only to find it was 3/8" too long. they took it back even though it was painted gold. the one i had was for late 60's, my engine is mid 70"s. the guy used my old water pump and cross referenced the part number. it will be in this morning but i doubt i have today off as well. that was a real piss off because i just put the motor back in (on the road again) and it wasnt leaking before. hey when i pulled the old pump it had no gasket, just blue silicone. i put one back in though, and ruined it taking it off again. thank god its working on our own cars, and not on the job. a bad day working on your own toy is still better than a good day at work. ha ha good luck with your water pump stan

I got a new one thru my NAPA guy but it's not really a NAPA part. He got it from the only place that makes them, which is in Georgia I think. They are about $90.00 but they are correct. I'll try and get the name of the place and part number from him today and post it later.

Thanks. There are only 3 P/N in the Napa catalog:
TFW 43120 (this is the "new" part), doesn't say A/C or non-A/C WP 58362 (this is the AC one, which I purchased) WP 58293 (this is the non-AC one)
There is nothing on the NAPA website that talks about neck length.
Thanks!

ONe of the few good things I got from Mondello was the aluminum water pump for my 425. It fit perfectly. Non-AC car.

I ordered a new aluminum pump for my '69 W31 from Dick Miller. There are three (3) different length water pumps--don't know why--very confusing. I thought there were two lengths and now I hear of another. I didn't compare the new one to the old one but both are the "SHORT" style for a '69 small block. Dick Miller seems to be very knowledgable, helpful, but his stuff is more for racing applications.

The water pumps that fit the 65-70 are 5in. long, the 71-72 are 5 9/16, and 73 and up are 6in. This is just off the top of my head so don't hold my to it. The older I get the less I remember.

The '65 A/C and non A/C water pumps are the same neck length, just have different impellers. There are 3 different Oldsmobile neck lengths in water pumps, I agree with the previous 4speed post. You can't trust any auto parts places to get you the right one, I have found that there "computer" catalogs are not even correct. I have some spare water pumps to sell if anyone needs one.
