I’m getting ready to bolt up my Kooks headers into my 65 442/400, manual. Should I be able to do this on my back in my garage on jack stands?

I’m getting ready to bolt up my Kooks headers into my 65 442/400, manual. Should I be able to do this on my back in my garage on jack stands? That's a loaded question, Headers just don't slide in on these cars, remove distributor cap, motor mounts, tape up anything you don't want scratched, and get it up as high as you safely can. Chances are extremely high you will have to jack the motor off it's mounts to give you extra room, but they will go on, haven't done a motor in header job in 35 years but it can be done.

Typically you need to remove the starter and the oil filter adapter also.

Ok, this is good info, reinforces my plan. Jack stand car as high as I can safely, be prepared to raise engine some, pull starter, some say you need to pull o/f adapter and some say you don’t, it’s only 3 bolts and I already got a gasket for it, so either way I’m ready for it. And yes protect header coating as best as possible.
