Is there some sort of magic trick for removing a starter from a 65 442,I know I've had it out before over the years, but I can't seem to remember how to get it out, I have a 4 speed and it seems to long to come out of bell housing. someone please tell me the trick before I hang myself

I'm hitting front part of frame, its like the starter is to long,I'm sure I've had it out before I just can't remember I've moved the manifold and the clutch linkage still can't get it out ,so I just left the old on in

i thought i was the only one that had this experience.i have struggled for a half hour and given up only to have it fall on the ground by itself.i dont have a definitive answer but it has to do with a slight rotation as you move it forward and down.i experienced this in the 70s and ran into it again recently, after slipping the starter in and out several times then not being able to get it out.i now have a mini starter.

Just a thought, would it help to raise up one side of the motor by disconnecting a motor mount?

If it's an automatic, remove flywheel cover. You also need to loosen the drivers side exhaust pipe where it meets the exhaust manifold, then it comes right out.
