Hi Everyone, I discovered Bro’s site several years ago, but have been a member of the forum since 2017. I enjoy reading all the posts but have never posted myself. I figured it was time to introduce myself and my ‘65 442 Holiday Coupe. My name is Tom and I currently live in San Diego, CA. I became interested in the 65 as my Dad had a ’65 f-85 deluxe (4 door). I just love the rear tail panel and tail lights. Looking from the rear quarter I don’t believe there are any better body lines out there.
I found my ‘65 442 while in the Navy and stationed in Norfolk, VA, in 1987. It is an original California car in Mojave Mist, with Fawn interior. It’s an automatic, with console, A/C, emergency brake indicator light and still has the original license plates. I am the third owner. I drove it around VA for a bit, then got orders to Pascagoula, MS where a new ship was being built. Since I was going to be there a few years before sailing the ship to its new home port in San Diego, I figured what better time to do some work on the car. I painted the exterior, interior, and freshened up the motor in 1992. I changed the cars exterior color to Saffron Yellow and the interior to Black. Since the ship was moving to San Diego we were able to bring our vehicles on board for the move (the ship was the USS Essex (LHD-2) - a Helicopter Carrier). The Olds got loaded up for the trip, where it got to see the Panama Canal and cross the Equator.
It maintained most of it’s original state until 2017, when the rear axel broke at the hub bearing as I was driving down the freeway. I lost the wheel, but luckily did not hit anything. There was a little damage to the left rear quarter panel and molding, (got a replacement molding from Roger Green). Since I love driving the car, I decided to go the way of Resto Mod, with all new modern suspension, new rear end (Strange S-60), wheels/tires. Currently building a 455. Electrical, interior, and a vintage air unit maybe in the near future.
I look forward to contributing to the forum, and love seeing all the variations of everyone’s ‘65 A body’s.
Day I bought 1987, Got to love the CB antenna!!
