I'm preparing my 65 B block for rebuild. I've been radiusing the 90s in the oiling system, enlarging the oil returns in the heads. I have been debating drilling a hole in the timing chain area to speed oil return. All the later blocks have this hole. I'm guessing that the Olds engineers designed this in on later blocks as a fix. Anyone else out there make this modification?

I am rebuilding my 65 B block also. Have been thinking about it. Actually I think oil return to the pan will be sufficient over the camshaft gallery. It is a concern to think about a larger oil pan, since the 65 engine is a twister, and this can suck your pan dry, depending on what kind of an engine you build. So I will leave this whole alone beside the timing chain, but install a good oil pump and a 7 quart telling pan. You can also see it the way that the whole is gonna weaken the block
