Can anyone recommend a good clutch kit for the street. The rebuilder is just about finished with my 400 motor and I need to buy a clutch so he can balance. The engine is 30 over, 66 cam, port and polished heads with roller rockers, edelbrock intake and carburetor. The car will have stock exhaust and a 308 posi. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Bob

I have never heard of anyone balancing the rotating assembly with a clutch. Typically they balance internals, balancer and flywheel. What if you change your clutch in the future? Are you going to rebalance? That is interesting... There are a bunch of good options out there for your level of power, so it's going to be personal preference. Ram makes the HDX, McLeod makes the Street Pro, Centerforce and Zoom also make clutches that will accommodate your needs. With this range of clutches you have all organic friction material and they shouldn't be too grabby or chatter a lot. The pedal pressure may be increased slightly in some, but the center force should have a real easy pedal. I personally prefer a heavier pedal, so I don't run Centerforce and I have no knowledge of Zoom at all. If you want a heavier duty clutch setup, look at the McLeod Super Street Pro, Ram Powergrip, or Centerforce Dual Friction. The Centerforce will have the easiest pedal. The Powergrip uses an organic/metallic friction combo for better hold, but can be a bit grabby. The SSP uses organic/ceramic puck friction materials, and they definitely can chatter. The pressure plates in these two are heavier as well, which you'll feel in the pedal. Like I said, there are lots of options out there. Figure out the charactaristics you want and then do a little research to see which best fits your needs.

Thanks for the information, I'll check out the recommendations. I think I'd prefer a street clutch with not too heavy a pedal. Getting a little older now and don't need anymore leg cramps. The car is more for driving, cruising and enjoyment.
The rebuilder likes to check the pressure plate and clutch and will balance separately. He likes to take the extra step to avoid issues. So far he has done a real nice job with the motor although I don't have a final bill yet.

Gary,
Yesterday John Hause of Piston racing who is building the motor suggested that I also call Mark at Falcon. Thanks I'll give him a call this week. I'll also give you a call, maybe I can take a ride out to see the Club Coupe.
