I know there are all kinds of web sites promoting different change overs but has anyone here converted their car to EFI? I want to change one of my 65's over (with the 455) and would probably got with a throttle body style. Trying to get some imput on which system would be best...

i haven't done it and i dont know anyone personally that has, but there a quite a few guys over on ROP that have and there is an EFI section on there, so maybe that would be a good place to start.

If you can tolerate the poor customer service, Mondello Performance in California is making Fuel Injection systems for Oldsmobile applications. www.mondellotwister.com/BTW, did any hear something about Joe Mondello leaving Mondello Performance in Cali and conducting shop now somewhere in the South? Bud442 mentioned hearing something of this to me yesterday. Ted

Ted Poor customer service, OMG>> they are pathetic, glad I don't have to deal with them anymore, but yes I have seen some of their Fuel injection systems, manifolds drilled with bungs installed at the end of the runner before the heads, look very nice, but please take some muscle relaxers or stronger after you order. You will get to know the UPS dude quite well while they try to get your order correct.

Joes new shop is in Crossville TN. He has nothing to do with the shop out in CA. MPP in California is bad news. You can say that again, stay the hell away "Mondello" in California. Lynn Welfringer or whatever his name is killed that business. They cant even send a cam card with the cams they sell, and then when you call them, they dont even know what the intake centerline is... "put the cam at 4* advanced on the crank sprocket..." yeah ok, first of all crank degrees and cam degrees dont relate at all. i ended up calling Engle and he gave me the cam specs. i degreed it with the crank on 4* advanced just for shits and giggles and when i did the intake centerline was 12* advanced i have a new cam now anyway, so i guess it doesnt matter... at any rate, i have not heard a good review of that business for at least 2 years.

I injected mine. i chose the megasquirt system. www.msefi.com/index.phpThe quick rundown, it's probably the most labor intensive means to inject a car, but you'll also end up with the most customized install. When I started my project there wasn't much for Olds and probably still isn't. You can do TB or port injection with the MS. If you have other questions don't hesitate to ask. eric

I believe the expression goes something like, "It runs like a raped ape!" Of course when I did the fuel injection I tossed in a handfull of might-as-wells like headers and "stage-two" head work by jim lapikas, of course the intake got replaced with that highrise air gap and the throttle body flows a lot more air than the 4GC. So, it's hard to say where all the power came from but it's there.
Tuning is easy in the sense that all you have to do is plug in a computer. It's a bit more difficult in that you don't just have a couple jets or rods to play with, there's a slew of things to mess with. I'd say in about an hour or two I got it running as well as a fresh out of the box carb would have been. There's still room for improvement but I've been enjoying it rather than tuning it recently. I still need to get the air filtration figured out then I'll take the time to do a fine tune.
One thing that's been a real eye opener for me is the underhood air temp now that I can monitor such things in real time. It's hot under there! Which means the car is breathing hot air instead of denser cool air. I was planning on modifying the air cleaner base to mount it atop the throttle body just as the factory would have done it, but I think I'm looking at around a 10-15% performance boost if I draw in outside air. So, I have to figure out what I want to do. I'm not a fan of the looks of the through the high-beam bucket option. I had thought about replacing the snorkel on the stock lid with something to adapt some 4" duct work and run it to a hole in the inner fender well. Not sure yet.... When I think of how much I spent to get the last 40 hp and how cheap the next 40 might be, it's kind of hard to pass this one up.

You're probably pretty close to right w/ a 10-15% boost, ESPECIALLY if you've been idling in traffic on a hot day! I'm thinking of the same thing, but something "removeable" that hooks to the original air cleaner snorkel so I can take it off when I go to a meet. I can imagine several "jury rigs", but I'm looking for a solution that looks at least halfway neat. Anybody have any ideas other than flex ducting & duct tape? Ralph

There are reproduction outside air scoops used on the 68/69 Hurst/Olds that mount under the front bumper. At one of our annual shows a guy brought a 65 442 with a set of these scoops and an air cleaner from a 66 442 (might have been a 67) and the hoses and other related parts. It was a neat setup and looked pretty cool. You can buy the air cleaner and hose set up from this guy; www.droldmobile.com/id12.html I couldn't find a listing for just the scoops, but I believe The Parts Place sells just the scoops. Here is a picture of the scoops;
