It seems a little pricey to me for what it does JMO. It does look like a very nice piece though. I ended up going to napa and ordering a new cast iron replacement. It came with a nice thick gasket and is so much nicer than the cheap ass chrome units (and was still less than $20). BUT I did have to heat the bypass tube that comes down to the water pump and bend it down a little more to line up straight for the short bypass hose (you already own an Olds so modifying a part that should fit to start with should be no big deal right??). With the cast iron replacement w/ metal bypass tube I know don't have to worry about a curved bypass hose splitting open under high pressures.

The VHT seems to work well, I'm not sure as well as powder coat but here locally I tried to get a silver or aluminum color done and everyone tells me, "heck I'd do black or white for you for free on small parts like that, but we rarely do silver, it would cost you 200-400 dollars. I took a rag with some gas on it and wiped the intake in a few spots and it didnt soften or dull the clear coat, so the VHT is the best spray can product I have found. I did valve cover 2 and messed up the paint, I have a big mop sink basin in the shop so I usually use carb/brake cleaner to strip paint unless its stubborn, then I break out the air craft stripper, usually carb cleaner does great, so when I had to strip valve cover 2 the brake cleaner would not strip it, it did damage the finish after I used a whole can but I had to use the aircraft stripper to get good results. I think I will be happy with the VHT results. I also ordered the RObbmc therm housing, and the pertronix HEI dizzy with the rev limiter, I went to the Shades of the past rod run this weekend and picked up all sorts of items from Billet specialities. I have seen several of you running the spark plug wire looms like I, mongoose, etc have, mine hits the steering shaft from time to time, so I bent the mounts in a 90 degree angle to run the plug wires along side the valve covers, I also picked up a set of plug wire holders that I can mount to the firewall to keep the wires off the firewall. I am going to redo the wire cheating also. Hopefully I am done soon under the hood.

The VHT works well except for on the heat riser ports of the intake. The clear coat will turn brown if the heat risers are not blocked off. Do your Edel heads even have heat risers?

I really need to make it up there for one of them. The Grand Run is this coming up weekend. I was blown away by the shades of the past run. I am just guessing but there has to be 30-50 motels on the main strip of Pigeon Forge and every one was booked, parking lots FULL of classics, rat rods, muscle cars etc. Traffic 4 lanes wide both directions of bumper to bumper cars for a few miles, the streets were lined with chairs for people to just sit and watch the cars go by. Ive never seen a show that big.

Here is a pic of the progress under the hood, which there is no hood right now. I smoothed the valve covers, smoothed the intake slightly not as much as the valve covers, I am waiting on some braided hoses, items from billet specialties, I am rebuffing the firewall, waiting on the billet dizzy with adjustable vac and rev limiter, etc. This is the VHT coating on the intake and covers, dont hold back I'd like an honest opinion

I dig the valve covers, the finish on the intake looks really nice. I prefer stainless ARP bolts for the intake, and I'm going to have to borrow your carb long-term. ;D

i like the finish as well, i used vht when i painted my engine as well and it has held up real well except for the intake at the heat risers. but the vht paint on exhaust manifolds still looks new. curios about the hood, clearance issue?

I had a clearence issue with the spectre breather, the bottom of the breather was a flat style, not a drop down style, I cleaned my old bottom up and used it, although a drop down style will not work properly without some modification with the prosystems carb.

How do you like the handling with the new suspension? The ride and handling are both incredible, I havent really pushed the car hard in the curves yet. I love the QA-1 shocks, I was running them on the soft side, and the ride was like a brand new luxury car, I just stiffened them up a bit the last time I drove it, and could tell a major difference, I might soften them up a touch.

thanx, just curios how my hood will fit with the new engine and a torker/ 4GC combo. sounds like there may be hope for a clean hood line

You might have to do a tab bit of "smoothing" on the acc pump lever to keep the breather from mashing it down.
