I had to fill and block the backside of my quarters. The red in my trunk isnt glossy so as to hide the bodywork. It covers enough to look like a guy with a hangover painted it on a Friday afternoon back in 65. How are you going to paint the car Gary? On the rotiss?

we are going to paint the car on the frame. we edge everything out and paint all the panels off the car. we put the car on the frame to do the body work and block the car out all assembled to get nice lines. the way i do it is separate the car after its painted and finish the chassis last.some guys dont do it that way but it works for me. i cant deal with all the plastic dust and overspray on finished detail work .no matter how much you mask and wrap it finds its way onto the finished parts. i learned the hard way with my 66. i had the frame finished and then did the body.i got so aggrevated with all the damage caused by dust and overspray. i separated it after the body was done and powdercoated the chassis the second time around. you know how it is, these cars go together and come apart 20 times before your done.

Wow! just read your thread from the beginning. A lot of work so far and it ALL looks great! really good! such a cool car that had an life that was part of yours...it's not hard to figure out why your working so hard on it.

Gary, Congrats on finding the mat. What product were you planning to use to dye them with? Is there any chance the person you got them from has a lead on another set as I have been looking for one of these mats for several years for my Club Coupe? My mat left the scene along with the bench seat several weeks after the car was new. The original owner told me he thought the whole interior was ugly and changed it to buckets with carpet. He ditched the mat as soon as he pulled it but had the seat into the mid '90s before he threw it out too. I've got a seat but am still on a hunt for the mat.

i plan on using sem or dupont on the dye. i have been looking for a mat since i bought the car, so i feel your pain . funny my friends dad who bought this car in 66 said the same thing, how he hated the cheapo interior and chucked it in favor of a white gto interior. the guys name who i got the mat from is doug. he is in oregon, jasen found him for me, he goes by the name iammrrocket on ebay. he sells alot of oldsmobile and motorcycle parts on there. good luck on the search. gary.
