Hey gang, I have been here awhile "lurking", and checking out the great cars that you all have. I have had this 65 for 17 years now, and bought from a buddy's Dad that had put it together for his Daughter to drive back, and forth to school. At the time, I had another 65 442 that was a well optioned car, but was a complete wreck. I bought it when I was 21, and the floors were completely gone, and I started to sand the paint off to find that it had been hit down the entire left side of the car, and was filled with tons of Bondo. It had enough rust in it, and in the funkiest of places too. I just couldnt see bringing the car back to life (plus I was young and stupid). My buddy kept telling me about his sisters car, and how his Dad was looking to sell it. I finally went to take a look at it, and fell in love with it, and brough it home. I drove it back and forth to work w/ the 330 in it until it gave up, and then put a 11.5:1 461 into it, and still drove it to work, w 4.10s. I raced it for a few years before blowing up that motor, and then had my son, and the car sat for the longest time. It now has a new 13:1 468 Olds in it that I am trying to finish up and get back to the track. Its a Cutlass Holiday Hardtop, and I just moved the 442 badges, and scoops from the old car, over from the real 442. Its not as fine as alot of the cars here, but I LOVE my Cutlass, and am really fond of the 64/65 body style. Here are some pics: It has its issues, like the rust in the quarters around the wheel lip, behind the tires, and of course its door dings, and scratches. This site is great, and I look forward to checking out more 65's here, and hopefully be able to share, and learn.

Believe it or not, it has the motor, and trans in it in those pics. It has settled some, since I put all of the fluids in it... I think the angle of the driveway makes the front end look high too.
I am in Maryland, and thanks about the color.

I wish everyone out there would quit worrying about not stacking up to the other cars on the Forum ........... We love them all and are happy just to see them surviving, no matter what the condition. FYI: photographs make them all look good or better than in person (except Z's latest). My Red Headed Stepchild has a 25 year old lacquer paint job on it. The pictures look great, but in person it's a nice 5 footer. I think your car looks great! Look here if you want to see a shit load of 65's most of the members rides are here if I snagged their pics somewhere. aliquippaoutlaws.homestead.com/442-BRO-Friends.html

I'm like Bro, my car is a nice 10 footer. Hell, if any of you read the auction reports from Hemmings Motor News or Hemmings Muscle Machines, by their standards my car would be 4- ;D ;D

Looks good, I like the way it sits, and it should run good with that fresh motor in it.

COOOOOOOL CAR!!!!! Where are you in Maryland, 'cause I don't think I've ever seen that one. Great color. Are the missing headlights some type of ram-air? I must say that I agree with the rest of the guys here----these cars are for fun, when you can't have fun with them what good are they. I have had cars that were too nice to use, but not any more. Been there, done that. Glad you're on board and fill us in on those E.T.s. Until next time..... Dave.

Great looking car...in my opinion the best mid 60's car on the street. Like you I have been watching this site for years just enjoying the cars and opinions. Far from an expert, but I have owned nearly 10 65's over the years...

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. Dave, I am in Hampstead now, but have always been around BMore. Yeah, I use to run ducts from the inner headlights into a dual snorkel air cleaner on the old 455 that I had in the car. I have really been struggling with whether or not I should put the headlights back in it or not. I love the way it looks without them, but dont plan on running the ram air setup, and cant see filling the under hood with air, so I am conflicted. The ET's will have to wait until the spring, I have just run out of time to get this thing done.. Its funny how you check things off the list, and yet the list just seems to grow. Here is a recent motor shot:

Boy, they are some TALL valve covers. Keep us posted on the progress. I'm in Sparks, MD right around the corner! Kinda surprised we haven't crossed paths (maybe we have and don't know it). I'm showing my '69 W31 racer in Timonium at the East Coast Indoor Nationals the first weekend in December with another Olds buddy---stop and say Hi. Until next time..... Dave.

I will be at the Timonium show as well too, but my car wont.. They wont let my car drop rust flakes on the floor there... LOL.
Been meaning to give you a call to come and check the car out up close, but you know how things can get...

Cool pic of the motor Rick! Just curious... where do you vent you're crankcase from, the back of the intake? I just noticed that you didn't have any breathers in those pretty aluminum valve covers.

'Goose, I have put breathers into both valve covers, and have mounted a breather tank on the motor plate.

Wow, its been a while since I have updated this and figured it may be time to do so. I had been running the 468 in the car up until this winter, and it has ran great outside of a few small issues. I added the fiberglass hood that I purchased from VFN, and have always been a fan of the old Super Duty hood scoops, so I added one to the hood. I created my own aluminum air pan to catch air, and shove it down the carb's throat. The engine loved the air, and I upped jet sizes in the carb each time down the track, and the ET, and MPH got better each time. Last year, I had an issue where the float adjustment screw on the secondary backed out, and fuel was spraying the back of the intake, and headers. I was making a pass when the car caught fire and burned up the distributor, which in turn shut the car off. I was smart enough to reach up and shut the fuel pump off, and when I coasted to a stop, I heard the crowd along the fence yelling "YOUR ON FIRE!" By the time I got the belts off, and window net down, the track guys were there, and putting the fire out. I was lucky, and only burned up the distributor, and a bunch of wiring under the hood. I replaced the distributor, and re-wired everything, and was able to get the car back out at the end of the season. It seemed to make more power, and I was having suspension issues that made the car blow the tires off from the get. I sold the 468 just prior to Christmas, and have acquired a 417" DX based small block Oldsmobile that will take its place. There are alot of upgrades that need to take place now since the power output is almost double, and previous suspension issues will only be magnified now. I am possibly looking at putting a manual rack and pinion on the car, and doing a anti roll bar setup in the back to make the car leave straight. I have been away a while, but plan on hanging out here more often. I love seeing the 65 Cutlass in all of its iterations, and enjoy reading all of the different experiences you guys have with them.
