What car you working on Shane? The Indiana car or the Ohio bucket? the 4 speed Indiana bucket , the first 442 I bought. The other Indiana bucket I bought in January It met a different fate.

I thought it was until I started tearing it down. Passenger side a pillar around the lower door hinge was rotted and the gutters on both sides of the cowl were soft. Found squirrel nest in both sides.

grabbed me lawn chair today and sat down outside with a piece of sand paper and a steering column.

i used wd 40 to clean out axle tubes on a rearend, how about varsol? parts cleaner?

You really have to work at it if they are dirty or if you had anything come apart and make filings. You'll need to swab it out, several times with some sort of solvent. until it comes out clean.

Whats the best way to clean all the junk out of tube? mineral spirits? I have used a shotgun cleaning kit for similar projects. Long rod, wire brush, solvent, pad to clean it up afterwards. Usually cheap on the shelf at wallyworld.

As i was browsing some 65 cutlass for sale ads I came across this someone with the color scheme I have envisioned for my 442. silver with red interior it looks sharp

Shane I have a buddy that restored a 1979 or 80 Toyota celica with damn near that same color. Funny you should say cuz his interior is the same deep red also. Go For It. Not something you see everyday.
