One of your members turned me onto this wagon after contacting me about my dad's 4-speed Lansing Wagon. After the member decided the car was too far away to transport I went ahead and picked up the car. I purchased the car from the original owner’s son but it had been sitting for an unknown number of years in the backyard of his Lake Tahoe, CA home. The car had some obvious body damage but was mostly complete and full of parts. He didn't have any original paperwork to confirm the factory 4-speed but from the looks of everything it certainly appears to be original. Since this is a Fremont, CA car the trim plate has no know confirmation characters for the 4-speed that I know of. The options are minimal and appear to be, F-85 Deluxe Trim M-21 Muncie 4-speed Deluxe Front & Rear Seatbelts Remote Outside Mirror 2-speed Wipers Wire Wheel Covers Roof Rack Manual Brakes Manual Steering 3.08 open diff. To date I've pulled and straightened the sheet metal on the front clip, rebuilt the brake system and pulled the gas tank twice to try and get all the crud out of the tank. Although there is no major rust on the car it's obvious that the car had been sitting, probably buried in the Lake Tahoe snow for quite some time. There is an abundance of surface rust on the bottom surfaces of the body and frame but still very solid. From the records I have and conversation with the owner's son I know the car spent all it's life in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon & N. California. The rebuilt motor runs pretty good when the carb is not full of crud from the tank and the suspension is tight. My plans for the car are to eventually restore it back to original with a few tweeks. Unfortunately though this car will have to wait until I can finish my dad’s Lansing car. So for now I'll just keep it running and keep it from looking too bad.

One consideration I have for this car is to create a 442-Wagon Clone. I was going to do this on my dad's car which has had 442 emblems on it since 1965 (actually has 1964 442 emblems on the front fenders). Since my dad's car is well documented as a f-85 330 4-speed I'll probably leave it alone and restore back to original and add the clone parts to this wagon. I pretty much have everything I need to convert the car, a complete 400 (66' though), all the emblems and side scoops (scoops will go on back doors) and boxed swing arms. I have a 442 shifter but it's a 66-on Hurst unit so I need to find a 65 shifter still since I was too slow to react on BR's bench seat 442 shifter, or I'll just stick with the Hurst.

I love wagons, always have, always will. I still want a Vista Someday, but I have to finish one of the other projects before I would think about that. Of course if the right one came along.......

Youre better off being slow to react. He told me what the handle sold for and I almost shit.

The shifter handle did look nice. I may just have to stick with the 66 Hurst unit. Oh, I also have a correct air cleaner lid and base. I tried to buy another set of 442 lower trailing arms today at a yard in Phoenix. They wanted $200 though so I walked away. Did I mention that the car goes good in the snow? ;D

Rick, I turned you on to the car....glad your taking good care of it for me. I should have bought and would have if I lived closer, just couldn't afford to buy, cover shipping on a car sight unseen.

I am in love with your 65 4 speed wagon. My wife said "straw hat and ear muffs", but I'd do that. Jim

Having put together, but never finishing, a '65 2-dr wagon Z-16 clone, I can understand love for wagons! Was able to make a 13:53 @ 109 pass [w/stock converter!] before parting it out, but came very close to putting a Cutlass nose on it when I saw the fender contours would line-up with the doors! Bought with a 220 horse 283 and a 4-speed!

Familyrides1965@gmail.com Thanks for the info on the car. It was a little rough but not bad once I put some time into it. So far I'm just using it as a driver and drive it almost every day. The gas tank has been the biggest issue but after a second cleaning it seems to be a lot better. The big dent in the rear quarter and the under body surface rust are probably the biggest issues now. I should be able to pull out the dent but it'll be a heck of a lot of hammer and dolly work. The under body seems solid but the years of sitting in the Lake Tahoe snow took a toll on the surface under the car. Hopefully a good sandblasting will take care of the underbody. Too bad about the 65 Vista that was out this way; certainly did look like a nice car.
