I want to thank everyone that has contributed to this discussion. Would it be possible to document the various possibilities, required modifications, etc. on this site for future use by anyone wanting to make the conversion? I would like to ask anyone making the conversion to document it in pictures and a written description of the process. This looks like a very popular conversion and would be a good start to a "Techno" site on the board. Thanks, Wally

I have five 1965 14" Wire Wheel Covers with knock off spinners. I would prefer to sell them as a set. I've seen them on Ebay for $200 each but I would take $750 plus shipping for the set. I can send pictures if you send me a message. Wally

I'd say it's a good idea. I plan on switching to 69-72 front discs on my car. It can be relatively cheap if you have a donor car to get the parts off of. I have the pulled the spindles etc off my old 71 Vista for my car. I'm going to swap them over this winter. I already ditched the suicide master. 64b09, Do you know if the fronts are limited to only the 69-72 GMs? I gave away a '78 Olds Cutlass, wonder if those fronts would have worked? With discs aren't you going to need a power brake master cylinder? Could you post some pictures as you make the conversion? Thanks, Wally

80s f body rear discs fit with minor modifications. Oldolds88, Would you expand on the minor modifications? Have you done this? I'm probably going to hit the recycle yards in search of parts. How much do I need to take off the donor car? Thanks, Wally

Just changing the fronts to disc makes a world of difference. If you have the budget, I'd say do it. Can't have enough braking for me. I figure brakes are more important than power, if you can't stop there is no need for power. From what I'm reading here it might be pretty cheap to go 4 wheel discs.

I'm continuing to make plans for my '65 Convertible. It seems to make sense to make the conversion from front drums to discs. Does it make sense to also convert the rears to discs? Has anyone used the Summit Racing 11" disc conversions? If so, were the fronts sufficient or do you think it would be wise to go four wheel discs? What size wheels did you have to use to clear the disc brake conversion?

I think that the dirt track racers use the 2 speed Powerglide. The Jetaway is basically the same transmission. I'll check with one of my racing buddies to see if there is any interest.

The Chevelle is actually Maroon. Are you implying "Green with Envy"? I am an American Car Guy. I have Fords, GMs and Chryslers. No foreign jobs in my driveway!

The Cutlass is in the barn for winter. I can't work on it until I finish the Chevelle. That provides me incentive to finish the Chevelle. I am thankful for my new barn, my Chevelle, and especially my Cutlass. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Wally

I'm not adverse to going through the engine while I have it out. Ah, the MIGHTASWELL disease. This is how you get from your stock motor to a supercharged 455 with aluminum heads... That disease has bitten me several times. It often keeps me working on projects for a lot longer than originally planned.

It looks like I'll have to pull the crank and get it machined. I'm not adverse to going through the engine while I have it out. It will give me a chance to clean everything up and get things looking good.

Got 64 vert frame (boxed). Is in need of some rust repair at the drivers door front post area, otherwise OK, not twisted. To save time, I replaced it with a 64 El Camino frame rather than try to fix it (I can't weld). It's $50. It's just north of Atlanta. I go through Atlanta about once a month. I would like to stop by and look at the frame. I'm sure I can find a way to get it home.

OK, after an extensive search of the internet I found out that the trans is a Super T10 used on either a GM 350 or 454. Ratios are 2.64, 1.75, 1.34, & 1.00 That sounds strong enough to put behind my 330.

OK, we have been talking about Saginaw vs. Muncie. I just went through my "Stash" and found a Borg Warner 4 Speed. How does it stack up against the others? I couldn't find a tag on it anywhere, how do I figure out what ratios it has without tearing it down? Thanks in advance for any help.

OK, it doesn't sound like I am going to find one close to MN. How far do I have to drive to get a good frame or chassis? What do you have?

Stan, how do you define "low horse V8"? Would a 330 fall into that category?

I had a lot of rust in my 442 convert frame. I took it apart repaired and rewelded. This is a big job, and you must restrain the frame to keep it square while welding. I drilled holes in my shop floor and used 3/4" threaded rod to suspend the frame 30" above the floor. You will also need X temporary bracing to keep it square. No individual step is difficult, just time consuming setup as you really need a jig table the size of the full frame. You can buy the frame box pieces on the internet. www.abcperformance.net/frame%20boxing%20kit.htmlThese are not the same as the GM pieces but will get you there. I do have a convertible frame available, for $900, but I am in Atlanta, GA. This is a rolling frame with drum brakes and 3.08 rear, non-posi. Alan, I go through Atlanta about once a month (by plane). Maybe I need to drive next time and trailer that home to MN. You need to post some pictures of the frame or PM me.
