I asked why he was selling a motor he invested a lot of money in. He said he rather would have the money. ?? Hope its all he says it is.

Story he gave me was that his friend built a pro-street / drag car out of his 442 using a 455 and set this engine in the corner. He tried for years to get the engine from his friend and finally bought it from him, planning to build a clone. He rebuilt the motor then lost interest in the project. He sent me ten pages of documentation on the rebuild and he was a very straight shooter on the phone, so I think I'll be getting what I paid for.
From what he said, the included air cleaner is flawless and still has the original pie plate.
The only two downsides I can see is that it's an automatic crank (relatively easy fix for my 4-speed) and the air cleaner is missing the base. (so if any of you have one you want to sell, let me know).

I spoke with this gentleman Mike and I was tempted. I watched the auction. I live about 25 miles from Portchester where he has the engine so it would have been an easy commute. Sounds like he has all receipts and documentation. He was building this for his 65 convertible but decided to leave the 350 in the car. From what he told me you should be happy with this motor. Good luck with it.

I haven't yet. Wanted to let the seller take his time and pack it up right. I just got off the phone with him and it's completely crated up and ready to ship. Just working out the logistics. Need to schedule pickup so that it will be delivered when I'm in town. He also packed up an additional 425 block and some random bits that are good but he wont use. To ship the second block, even on a separate pallet, will not add much to the total cost.
I'll keep you guys posted. Looks like I'll have them pick it up around the 24th so it gets to me the first week of March. I'm in and out of town until then. -grant

Finally showed up today. spare 425 block and many miscellaneous parts (that I haven't looked at yet) on the other pallets. The packing was good, but even shrink wrapped well a trip across country is rough. No real damage... just scuffs on the valve covers, which need to be repainted anyhow. The straps on top all held except the one. Tear down time!

I've been totally swamped! Barely finding time to sleep. Finally got some time to open them up on Saturday night. - new roller rockers, lifters, pushrods - rebuilt 4GC with a tag and extra rebuild parts and gaskets - correct exhaust manifolds - valve covers and an oil pan from the spare 425 - spare distributor (missing parts) - new motor mounts - accessory brackets and a power steering pump - other misc. goodies Oh, and I just picked up this, which he shipped separate. That thing is a lot bigger than I expected it to be. It's in pretty good shape. A tiny bit of surface rust on the bottom side which can be cleaned up and protected. There is one or two real small dings on it as well. The "Ultra High Compression" decal is not glued on and I have to find a way to clean the hardened glue off the air cleaner, but it will look good once it's back on there. -grant

It looks in really good shape. Very nice! Is anybody having any issues with the forum over the last couple of days? It takes forever to load the pages and move between topics. I first thought it was my connection, but the other sites and places I go work just fine.

No issues for me Big Mike This was in one of the boxes. It's just about empty. The pictures of my engine make it look brown... camera on my phone. It's actually bronze, but maybe a little dark. Just thought I'd put this up for you guys to check out.

That's I used on my 65 motor, still available in spray bombs or quart cans.

The Bill Hirsh spray and the quarts are not the same as they used to be. When I rebuilt my engine in the 80's the color was dead on, 100% correct. I bought it again a few years back and it isn't even close. I called Bill Hirsh and talked to him about it for quite a while. I told him I still had an inch left in my quart and that it was a much much darker bronz. He wanted me to send it to him for comparison. It turned out that when they were forced to take the lead out of the paint it completely changed the color. They must think that us dinosaurs that actually had the 65's are all senile and don't remember the true color. BUT I DO!

Hold on... So is the new non-lead stuff too light or too dark?
So what was the outcome? Is he going to fix it going forward?
