Has anyone ever tried to put a set of 72 Cutlass small block Olds Headman headers in a 65? I found a set for a good price and were just wondering if they would even have a chance of fitting. Seems like the steering box and shaft would be the biggest obstacle.

They won’t work as is. To my knowledge the only SBO headers for 64-67 now being made are ARH and you’re looking in the $1000 neighborhood.

Just to clarify, the frame rails are about 1.5" narrower in front than are those on the 68-72 cars, thus the difference in header fitment. As for using later model headers, the problem is that every single header manufacturer routes pipe differently. Some brands and model numbers fit better than other. The early cars used to be well supported by the header manufacturers, but there isn't enough demand today to justify carrying those items.

I went ahead and picked the headers up anyway. They're a fairly nice set of Headman's with evacuation hoses and plug in's and he only wanted $25. I guess I'll find out if they fit or not but I'm assuming they won't.
