I know that this question may be a bit off topic given the focus of this forum but at least it's an Olds-related question and perhaps there may be someone connected with this forum who can give me a fairly accurate answer. For three years ( 68-70 ) Olds put out the W-31 350 Ram Rod as an economic alternative to the big block 442. Oldsmobile rated this engine @ 325 hp which I believe was very conservatively rated. What would these Ram Rod 350's really be putting out?

Back in early July I posted a question regarding the true horsepower output for the Ram Rod 350. No one replied to my question but since then I have researched several articles on this junior 442. The factory rating was 325 but a couple of writers contended 375 h p was far more accurate. Assuming that most of the members on this forum know the cars that I'm talking about, have any of you ever raced against one in years past? I would think that the Ram Rod would easily have the upper edge!

Yes the ram rod has the upper hand. It was the Chesrown 68 ram rod that won nhra spring nationals. Me being around Tweed Vorhees these last few years I’ve learned a lot about these ram rods.

Does anyone know if the HP rating on the 400 single carb was underrated or accurate?

Does anyone know if the HP rating on the 400 single carb was underrated or accurate? 65 to 67 underrated, 68 & 69 overrated!

So what might be the true horsepower rating be for the 1965 400 442 engine factory rated at 345 hp should it be somewhat underrated? Anyone ever have your motor dynoed?
