My car was an AC car but no longer. The heater equipment seems to be in place but not hooked up completely (electrically). The switch gets power and it goes out the three wires individually when selecting low, med or high. These wires were found in the engine compartment near the fan but were cut. There is no wire connected to the fan motor. There is a three prong resistor in the heater box but not wired (I'm under the impression I need a four pin resistor for the three speed switch). My question is do I need a different resistor, one that has three prongs for the switch wires and one more prong for a separate wire going to the fan motor? I assume the that the three prongs of the resistor would be wire connected by the three wires coming from the switch in a correct speed order. My wires do not have a connector on the resistor end so I believe I would have to make sure I hook up the new connector Correctly so the correct wire connects to the right pin on the resistor. The fourth pin would need a separate wire from that pin to the fan motor. thanks in advance for your help, john

look on Jason's sight...Ultra high Compression...scroll down to Assembly manual...part three...Heater...there is a wiring diagram...
hope this helps

I'm not familiar with Jason's site. Is that Bro with factory manuals? If it is I have copies of those factory manuals from "wild about cars" site and the wiring schematics help but don't provide enough visual detail about what the resistor looks like or the added wire connection that goes to the fan.
I've seen three and four post resistors and think the correct one is four post and that the heater and resistor now in my car may not be original but from a non AC car. I think an AC car had a four post resistor (3 and 1 separate). Is is possible that non AC cars had a two speed fan and AC cars had a three speed fan?

Jason's site "Ultra High Compression is on the front page or home page of this site just above where you click on forums...click Ultra High Compression and scroll down to assembly manual part three...might be what you have already seen elsewhere...maybe one of the others with an AC car can answer your question regarding number of fan speeds...neither of my 65's have AC...if I stumble across anything else that I think might help...I'll post it...
Good Luck

After relooking at the wiring diagram and at pictures of wiring harnesses, I think I. Can use the resistor I have and just have to buy a new harness. I ordered one on eBay for $35 with free shipping.
I was caught up thinking I needed a different resistor ( a 4 pin resistor 3 plus 1 separate).and a wiring harness to go with it.
thanks for your help, john

After installing a new heater harness and resistor all works as it should. john
