I was talking to a gentleman today who brought something to my attention that I never new existed, It was an aluminum bodied 66 Tri-Carb W-30 442. It was delivered to Stackhouse Oldsmobile in Youngstown, Ohio. It came from the factory as a race model equipped with headers, 4:88 gears, line lock, tach, full set of gauges and radio, heater & wiper delete. The battery and electric fuel pump were mounted in the trunk. The Ram-Air collectors were mounted where the turn signal lights should have been. It arrived at the dealership maroon with a gold interior. The original owner was Bobby Stackhouse, he then sold it to Bill Ockerman and was driven by Bob Nuth all from Youngstown. They didn't even know that it was aluminum until the rear quarter panel was accidently backed into at Meander Dragstrip (near Youngstown). It appeared to be an easy fix until the body man started grinding and found out immediately that he was dealing with aluminum. While in the body shop they decided to paint it dark gold with two wide yellow (crinkle paint) stripes running up the hood over the roof and down the trunk. It was raced on the strips around Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania including Meander (Youngstown, Oh), Quaker City (Salem, Oh), Skyline (New Castle, PA), Sunset (Mercer, PA) and others. It was sold locally and then rumored to have moved somewhere out West. From there we're not sure where it went.
This is the first aluminum Olds that I've ever heard of. If anyone has any info they can add, it will be appreciated.
