I'm trying to buy a stock black ball.I got one ,its 3/8 fine thread the one I have is 5/16 fine thread so that being said, what size is a stock 65 442 handle 3/8 or 5/16 fine or corse thteard

I think the question IS, what size are the threads on the shifter that you HAVE.

5/16. 65 has smaller threads than the 66-67 knob. I had one custom made, bigger than stock with metal threads. Original ball has plastic threads.

thanks for the info I new mine was 5\16 fine thread i just wasn't sure what was stock thought maybe someone had changed the size at some time

If the shifter has smaller thread than the ball, you can always just buy a thread bushing and use the larger threaded ball on the smaller shifter.

No, it's not a helicoil, it's a thread reducer. It is similar in how it works to a helicoil, but it is solid.

I get mine at my local hardware store, we still have a real old fashion family run hardware and it's great. You can try the specialty assortment bins at Home Depot or Lowe's. I know you can get them at Fastenal stores.
