What should be painted black and what shade of black? Here is what I have come up with in my search for restoring the car as close to original as possible. Frame, engine brackets, core support, most of the front and rear suspension parts should be semi-gloss black. The firewall heater box and the radiator should be gloss black. The firewall is FLAT black. Steel for the driveshaft, steering box and steering parts. Anyone else have different thoughts?

Just check Jasen's site and build threads, you can't go wrong with that info on paint types, etc.

Jasen's website does not go into this kind of detail and pictures are often difficult to decipher gloss from semi gloss. I guess, the safe bet would be to use semi gloss black. So if no one has thoughts on the engine bay, what about the drive shaft. I see a lot of pics with the drive shafts painted black. However, on occasion I see them as steel. For example, Jasen posted a pic awhile back asking about drive shaft diameters. One of the drive shafts posted had been sand blasted to steel. Was this in prep for paint or is this how they are supposed to be. Unfortunately I was not a live in 1964, so I never bought one of these cars new from the showroom floor.

Drive shafts were bare steel and rusted quick.

Jasen's site states he used Eastwood Chassis Black for the frame and if I'm not mistaken he used satin black for under the hood items, or maybe both.
