Stan I haven't used heat on the fender I used a 40 grit to strip the old paint two layers and then 80 grit to smoothed it out. I've been using a flat file ( looks like a odd Z ) and a shaping tool to get the larger dents out . The smaller dents I've been using a pointer tool you line it up on top squeeze and it hit's from the bottom. Then using a old body file to find highs and lows. I welded up the f85 badge holes on the from of the fender and kept the v8 badge as I like them. I've yet to see a pic of a 442 with them, so hope I don't get beat up to bad for it but it is a clone. I will take a pic of the tools I've been using These are most of the tools I been using

Okay almost done with drivers door, got a good size scrap down the middle of the door out and about thirty little dings. the very bottom seam was wavy so here is a truck I learned dolly underneath and hammer high spots down file to find the low spots if you fine the low spots I just hit the side of the seam and it pushes the metal up and file some more and adjust as needed On the edge of my door under the handle there are a few dings / wrinkle was going to use filler, but my buddy saw how straight the rest of my door and work was,so he said he would led fill them for me !!

Pulled my right door yesterday getting ready to tear it down . I ordered some tinning butter to do the led work on the left door . Hopefully I can have both doors ready for primer by the end of the month so I can start the hood and roof

East wood tinning butter and lead work Okay 1. Clean area very well if need be spot sand blast 2. Mix the tinning butter as it seams to settle. 3. Apply a thin coat of tinning butter to the area about 3" around 4. I used steal wool in vise grips and heated area as I spread running compond around. Apply a small amount of lead drops as your doing this to help prep the are. It will get really shiny when ready 5. Apply lead where needed and begging to work with lead paddles 6. File to finish up after area has cooled 7 clean area very well before paint

That is awesome. This is how I was taught to do bodywork when I was an apprentice way back when. This is how bodywork should be done. The way your guy is guiding you is really the only way to do restoration work if you want the repairs to last the test of time.

Who ever fixed it put fiber glass to fill in any and all dents they tried to heat shrink some spots but ended up just filling over them We have pulled so much fiberglass/bondo out of this I hope I can pass some knowledge down. I know I post as much info as I can and I have six kids, so at least one has to be a gear head lol.
